A popular frozen ravioli sold at Costco has been pulled from shelves after federal food-safety officials warned the product may be mislabeled and contain undeclared shellfish. The notice, issued in early May, highlights a potential allergy risk for shoppers in two states and explains what consumers should check now.
Rana Meal Solutions initiated a voluntary recall for the 32-ounce pack of “Rustic Beef Sauce & Creamy Burrata Cheese Ravioli” after testing and consumer reports suggested some packages contain a shrimp filling in a lobster sauce rather than the advertised beef and burrata. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published a public health alert on May 4 confirming the action.

The recall covers specific production and sale dates and a unique item number, making it possible for consumers to verify whether a purchase is affected. According to Rana and the FSIS, the key identifiers are:
- Item number: 2009458
- Production dates: March 10–April 21, 2026
- Sale period at Costco: March 15–April 30, 2026
- Inspection mark: establishment number Est. 44870 within the USDA mark of inspection
- Shipped to: Costco warehouses in Maryland and New Jersey
How the problem came to light
FSIS says the discrepancy was discovered after two consumers reported finding shrimp ravioli inside packages labeled as beef and burrata. The agency and the company say there are no confirmed reports of illnesses linked to the affected packs so far, but they stress the risk to anyone with shellfish or crustacean allergies.
Because the product could cause a severe allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, the FSIS recommends those with allergies do not eat the ravioli and either discard it or bring it back to a Costco warehouse for a full refund.
What you should do now
- Check your freezer: look for 32-ounce packs marked with item 2009458 and the USDA establishment number Est. 44870.
- If you or a household member has a shellfish allergy, do not consume the product.
- Return the package to Costco for a refund or dispose of it safely.
- If you’ve already eaten the product and are experiencing symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention.
- For questions, contact Rana Meal Solutions through their website or by phone at 888-326-2721, Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. ET.
The affected ravioli are no longer being offered for sale, according to the FSIS. For consumers outside Maryland and New Jersey, the incident underscores the importance of checking product labels and relying on inspection marks when allergies are a concern.
Federal and company notices remain the best source for updates; check the FSIS website or Rana Meal Solutions’ customer line if you need confirmation or further instructions.
