Scott Ervin’s Apple Pie, Worth $275 For SCV Food Pantry

THANK YOU to everyone for supporting eatSCV.com and The Speakeasy Bakery in our first Pi(e) day pie auction.  Because of your generosity, we were able to raise over $1100 for the SCV Food Pantry!!!!

This year, Pi Day was extra special as when it’s first 11 digits (3.141592653) are interpreted as date and time it will be the only time in a century to absolutely align with the date at time. In honor of that once-in-a-lifetime moment, The Speakeasy Bakery chose to end its online bidding precisely on March 14, 2015 at 9:26:53am.

10 total pies were baked and delivered, and probably all consumed by now.  Top price was for Uncle Scott’s world famous apple pie, which some are referring now to as the Empire Pie.

“Never in my wildest imagination did I expect the response we got” Scott said. “Everyone seemed to be having fun with it and yet, it was all for a good local cause. Is one pie worth $275? Of course not. What we saw is a community coming together to help others. Pie was icing on the cake, so to speak.”

Ervin started The Speakeasy Bakery group after he baked an apple pie and shared the photo online and gave it to a friend he had met on social media. The name “speakeasy” came from the fact that in order to be able to get one of these pies you had to “know a guy” much like patrons of prohibition era speakeasies would have to in order to secure entrance into a back room booze lounge. Today The Speakeasy Bakery is open to anyone who can find it online, and wants to become a better baker.

eatSCV.com and The Speakeasy Bakery are partners in improving the quality of food in Santa Clarita.
