The Speakeasy Bakery Signs a Lease in Old Town Newhall

For a few years now, The Speakeasy Bakery has operated under the guise of “if you know you know” but now, it is ready to evolve into the bakery that Santa Clarita so desperately needs. Thank to what promises to be the most successful tax season yet, accountant turned baker Scott Ervin has officially signed a lease in Old Town Newhall.

The Speakeasy Bakery has gained a cult like following thanks in part to an active Facebook community where Scott Ervin shares his wisdom on the art of making bread. He has also conducted classes in an effort to start a bread movement here in Santa Clarita. In addition, his bread has been the center of attention at various charitable events throughout town like Cocktails on the Roof and Sunset in the Vinyards.

Additionally, the bakery currently holds a strong 5 star ranking on Yelp from those loyal followers that have been lucky enough to try the game changing bread. When approached with the ideal vacant location to finally give The Speakeasy Bakery a proper storefront in Newhall, Scott Ervin says “it just felt right” and with the addition of the Laemmle Theater and the accompanying parking structure, he adds that he’s “honored to be part of the evolution of Newhall.”

When reached for comment, Mayor Pro Tem Dante Acosta, who himself has been a big advocate for the revitalization of Newhall, said that he would be “first in line” once the bakery opens.

In anticipation of the opening, Ervin has recently purchased two commercial ovens which will be used to fulfill wholesale orders for local restaurants that want to carry his bread. “It got to the point where so many local restaurants were emailing me constantly asking if they could carry my bread, so it just seemed like the right business decision.” However, once the buildout is complete, the bakery will open with limited hours to start in order to accommodate local residents wanting to purchase a loaf or two for dinner.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity, and I can’t wait for the people of Santa Clarita to have access to my bread” adds Ervin “it’s pretty fucking good!”
