Hook Burger Opens in Valencia

I’m just going to say it before I hear everyone else say it.

Yes. We got a new burger place in town. Yes, it is a (micro) chain.

Here we go…

There are currently 7 Hook Burger locations throughout Southern California, and while it was founded by the same brothers that started The Habit, this is a separate endeavor that was started in 2010.

Leading up to the official grand opening, Hook Burger held a series of fundraisers with limited hours. I went on Saturday for lunch where all the proceeds went to the Boys and Girls Club. So not only does this benefit a charity but it helps them out in terms of training.

Because it is new, you are going to experience over-service. The type of service where you have someone asking you if you need anything every 2 seconds. They have a handful of options (prime, hickory, Maui, California, and pretzel) and you can substitute the beef patty for a turkey burger or a veggie burger. The prime burger is priced at $6 but cheese is .75 extra. I added bleu cheese to mine.

Pictures don’t do it justice. This burger is small, but it is also $5.50 (plus the cost of cheese)  so I guess you get what you pay for. The Prime Burger has caramelized bourbon onions, lettuce, tomato, and honey dijon mayo.

This is the Hickory Burger ($6.50 plus .75 for cheese) with a turkey patty. It has thick cut bacon, bbq sauce, homemade crispy onions, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Honestly, we didn’t love it. The turkey just didn’t have a ton of flavor.

They don’t have a combo so it is up to you to add a side if you want one, and given that the burgers are pretty small you might want to get a side and/or a shake to feel full. Or do what we did, and just go to Golden Spoon for dessert afterwards. Ha.

This is the trio ($5.95), which comes with sweet potato fries, plain fries, and onion rings, plus you can get ranch dressing to dip. The sweet potato fries were good, but the plain fries were not. I’ve had Hook Burger in Burbank before, so I know the way the fries were cooked is not the norm. Hopefully something they can work out with training.

And for those of you looking for a healthier option, you can make your burger a lettuce wrap, or you can just get a salad. This is the BBQ Bistro Salad ($6.50 + $2.75 for grilled chicken).

Burgers are like pizza around here. We are never going to agree. Some people will love it, some people will not. Most people (like me) already have their go-to burger places in town, and for those that are undecided here is one more place to check out.

And for those that are wondering, they have a Maui burger with pineapple. You’re welcome.

Hook Burger is located in the Target shopping center on McBean and Magic Mountain in Valencia.
