Build A Better Thanksgiving – Featuring Huntsinger Ranch Turkeys

HuntsingerOldSchoolIf you’ve been around Santa Clarita for any amount of time, no doubt you’ve heard of the Huntsinger Family. Peter Huntsinger Sr. founded his turkey ranch in the San Fernando Valley in 1934 and eventually moved into Santa Clarita in the early 1950’s and quickly became one of the region’s largest providers of the holiday favorite. People would drive from all over Southern California to head down a dusty road onto the ranch where Peter or his wife Mable would greet their customers in person and direct them to where they could select their own turkey for their family gathering.

Peter was an icon in the community, sitting on the founding board of trustees for the College of the Canyons in 1968. Today, Pete Huntsinger Jr. still lives in Santa Clarita and runs Huntsinger Ranch, offering the highest quality all-natural or certified organic turkeys throughout the Southwest in major supermarkets.

Pete has been gracious and generous to offer Huntsinger Ranch turkeys to us for Build A Better Thanksgiving this week with J. Kenji Lopez-Alt. We cannot thank him and his family enough for this gift.

Tickets are still available for the cooking demonstration on Wednesday evening at COC. And yes, you’ll get a chance to taste some of the delicious Huntsinger Ranch turkey that is a part of Santa Clarita’s vibrant history.
